The ‘Signal & Image Processing’ Technical Competence Center is pleased to
announce the Workshop "Geometrical Transforms for image processing –
Application to satellite image restoration and compression". This workshop
will be held on November, the 24th, 2005 at the Centre National d’Etudes
Spatiales (CNES) in Toulouse, France.
- Objectives of the Workshop:
The aim of this workshop is to provide an overview of the geometrical
transforms used in image restoration and image compression applied to
satellite data. We call geometrical transforms any representation of the
image based on the geometrical characteristics of this image. New transforms
providing a geometric representation of the information have been recently
proposed (using curvelets, bandlets, ridgelets, ….). In the field of image
compression, these methods are the key to a breakthrough in terms of
performance, as they offer a lot of potential for improved image
decorrelation compared to frequency based transforms. Image analysis with
this kind of new transforms can also be used to do selective compression by
detecting and transmitting only objects of interest.
- Organisation:
The workshop will provide an open-forum for sharing technical experiences,
potential requirements and points of view between all the participants. These
participants will come from scientific laboratories, space agencies on-board
and ground image processing sections, and industry providing solutions to
satellite projects.
The workshop will be organised around a single session with oral
presentations and round table discussions.
Papers will be selected on the basis of abstracts of nearly 500 words in
length. Abstracts should be submitted in electronic format (pdf or doc) by
email to carole.thiebaut@cnes.fr.
Abstracts should contain a title, the name and address of author(s) and a
summary of the paper. The deadline for submission is September, the 30st.
